PLANET VS PLASTIC

Earth Day 2024 tackles the urgent issue of plastic pollution with the theme "Planet vs. Plastics."

Plastic pollution harms ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. Microplastics are found in everything from our food and water to our bodies, raising concerns about potential health risks.

The production of plastics relies on fossil fuels, contributing to climate change. Waste management struggles to keep up with growing plastic volumes, leading to overflowing landfills and plastic pollution in oceans and waterways.

Everyone has a role to play in combating plastic pollution. Let's work together to protect our planet for future generations!

Ways You Can Help

  • Reduce Plastic Consumption

One of the most critical environmental challenges that we confront today is plastic pollution, which has adverse effects on both our environment and our health and well-being. We have all, albeit unintentionally, played a role in exacerbating this issue, and thus we must take action to reduce and ultimately eliminate plastic pollution

    a. Bring your own reusable bag when you’re out shopping

    b. Avoid single use plastics eg. Drinking straws

    c. Replace plastic tupperware with glass or steel containers when eating at work or packing meals back

  • Organise or participate in community clean up

The preservation and survival of life on our planet depends on the crucial task of cleaning the environment. By maintaining a clean environment, pollution can be reduced, the biosphere can be preserved, endangered species can be protected, and the natural resources of the earth can be conserved.

  • Practice Sustainable Fashion

Sustainable fashion operates in an environmentally and socially responsible manner, where the aim is to shift the industry and consumers away from fast fashion approach and towards sustainable ways of sourcing, production, distribution, marketing and consumption.

    a. Opt for garments made from natural fabrics rather than synthetic ones. Examples of natural alternatives include cotton, linen, bamboo, flax, jute, silk, wool and alpaca.

    b. Select ethical brands that prioritize the environment, remunerate their workers fairly, and maintain transparency throughout their entire supply chain.

    c. Donate clothes to the local shelters instead of throwing them away.

  • Plant a tree

Planting trees is highly effective to combat the climate crisis. You can take part in local tree planting events or contribute to initiatives such as The Canopy Project by earthday.org, which aims to promote reforestation efforts across the globe.
